Intermodal Logistics Hotspots.
Barcelona Morrot and Rail Hub Duisburg.

Kombiverkehr has systematically refined its terminal strategy during the reporting year, thereby strengthening key infrastructure hubs for European combined transport. The focus was on the Barcelona Morrot and Rail Hub Duisburg terminals.

Together with Renfe Mercancías, we established the joint venture UTE Rail Hub Morrot on 31 May 2025, thereby becoming a shareholder in the new operating company for the Barcelona Morrot terminal. The site is one of Spain’s most important intermodal transhipment facilities and connects the Mediterranean region with the economic regions of Central and Northern Europe. The aim of the investment is to secure the quality and stability of transport to and from Spain in the long term and to make operational processes more efficient. With this new commitment, we have further expanded our presence on the Iberian Peninsula. We commenced operational terminal management on 1 June 2025. The new company took over approximately 77,500 square metres of terminal space, including office and ancillary facilities. In the autumn of the reporting year, as part of a far-reaching reorganisation of production processes, we designated the Barcelona Morrot terminal, together with the Ludwigshafen combined transport terminal, as the central consolidation point for our traffic to and from Spain. In future, eleven trains per week in each direction are to operate on direct services without the need for complex wagon grouping.

With the new Rail Hub Duisburg, Kombiverkehr is specifically strengthening a key European gateway location right at the heart of one of Germany’s most important logistics regions. The Port of Duisburg now plays a key role in the international combined transport network. Through greater operational integration, we aim to manage capacity at the site more efficiently, modernise processes and, overall, contribute to greater customer satisfaction. Following an intensive preparatory phase in 2025 and since taking over day-to-day operations on 1 January 2026, we have already succeeded in many cases with a highly motivated team, a new IT infrastructure including a modern terminal operating system, and a modified commercial billing system. The latest developments at the Rail Hub Duisburg are a very good example of our close collaboration within the Kombiverkehr Group and make us very optimistic about the future.
